I am thoroughly in love with the one on my car. Its nice and thick, covered in smooth nappa leather. BMW really hit this one out of the park. What do you have? What do you look for in a steering wheel?

I have three of 'em. Here they are, rated worst to best:
Worst wheel. Bulky, awkward and not easy on the hands. On the plus side, mine is leather wrapped and has tilt and is telescopic! Why the hell would they put a telescopic wheel on a Focus.
Better wheel. Easy to maneuver, not a lot of buttons. Cons: Horn don't work and I'm worried the air bag is toast
Best wheel. Excellent dimensions. Easy grip. Perfect for 9:00 and 3:00. Simple operation - it steers, nothing else. Con: The horn buttons are worn after 350k miles, but at least they still work unlike the truck with not even 200k on it yet

No, the leather is nice and there is a nice give to it, I'm talking about the center of the steering wheel. Where the leather ends, it starts to feel a bit cheap. Put your hand through the top of the steering wheel and feel the seem around the top of the plastic covering the airbag. It's a very nice steering wheel, and much nicer than the stock one, but it still has surface plastics that are on the cheap side.

Ok that I agree with. I don't think I've ever been in a car where the center was as good as the rim. No cars come to mind..
The little plastic-y cloth thing on top behind the wheel does bother me thought. I would have rather had hard plastic or just bare metal rather than that.

No, not even close. In fact, I could probably count on one hand how many cars I've made money on, the last one being my RS 4.0 that I sold last year, and honestly I don't mind. I don't buy cars with the hopes that they go up in value one day, I buy them because I want to experience them and all their unique qualities. That being said, money does sometimes influence my decision making, case in point the 4.0. In simple terms, a guy contacted me through one of my friends and was looking for a 4.0 and willing to pay a ridiculous amount for it. Anyway, long story short, I ended up selling the car and, looking back, I kind of wish I hadn't, as it was one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Oh, well then I might have to start doing a few short write ups. Here's some of what I've written about my cars (sorry for the boring writing style, I was obviously not a journalism major in college). I'd read them before you decide whether you want me writing articles. Haha.
Here's a post I did about my 12C:
"Alright as promised a few thoughts on my 2014 McLaren 12c. As most publications have hailed, it is the softest riding super car I have ever owned which makes it terrific for my 80 mile round trip commute to the office. In addition, the engine is incredible with very little lag and plenty of power to firmly plant you in your seat. Also, the transmission is brilliant and works as well as the best dual clutches available with near instant shifts. On top of this, fit and finish of body panels and paint are impeccable and the exposed carbon pieces are gorgeous. Downsides? Well the standard Pirelli tires, while good, can get hot and "greasy" quite quickly when being push hard on track. In addition, while the braking performance is world class, the brake feel isn't the best I've ever experienced. Also, while it's not a bad looking car, I definitely don't set up my lawn chair in the garage to admire it like I do my Ford GT or Carrera GT. Finally and most frustratingly, the "IRIS system" can freeze or glitch at times so I guess they're still working out the bugs (though it hasn't had problems since the car's last dealership visit so maybe the problem has been fixed). Overall, I have really enjoyed the last few months that I've owned the car and am considering the 650S as it sounds like it keeps the great parts from the 12c and improves on the weaknesses.
My current daily driver is the 12c but up until about 3 months ago it was a 2011 Aston Martin DBS (terrific brakes, great manual transmission, gorgeous lines, very practical, intoxicating exhaust, terrible gas mileage, frustrating navigation) which I put nearly 40,000 miles on in less than 2 years. I absolutely loved the car but really wish that the engine had more power and I just really wanted to experience something new. Before the DBS, I briefly DDed my RS 4.0 but that was mainly to break it in before I took it to the track. However, by far my favorite car that I ever daily drove and one that I wish I had kept was my 1964 Aston Martin DB5 that I bought way back in '67. It may not have been reliable but it was just a wonderful little (by today's standards) sports car."
Here's a post I did comparing my GT2 RS and RS 4.0:
"Well I don't have quite enough time for a full in depth review tonight but I'll share some, hopefully helpful, insights. When talking about the RS 4.0, I always like to compare it to its big brother the GT2 RS. Both cars are not only the best cars that Porsche makes but truly can hold their own against rival supercars (or whatever we're calling them these days). In terms of brake feel and steering, I don't think that anything comes close (the enjoyment of the steering wheel dancing around in your hands on a bumpy Texas back road is something that truly must be experienced to be believed). In addition, they are both cars that require "deliberate" inputs (you definitely can't operate the shifter with one finger like the GT). These factors all combine to make these two exciting to drive but also quite a handful on public roads. While they may have license plates, these two are definitely street legal race cars. Their rides are quite stiff, their engines need to be revved to get the best out of them, their tires are semi slicks and, therefore, have very little traction in the wet, and the road noise is quite pronounced. Now let me be clear, I have no problem with these traits, in fact I find them quite endearing, but I think people need to understand the purpose behind the engineering of these vehicles. They weren't meant to be the car you get in every morning and calmly drive to work in. That's what the Carrera and Turbo models are for. No, these vehicles were designed to make the driver work behind the wheel and turn ever drive into an event. Yes, they may not be as quiet or as easy to drive as their other 911 siblings but that's what makes them so special. The best way I can describe it is think of video games you've played. With the easy game you beat it within a few days and face little to no struggles along the way. In this scenario, the individual will feel pleasure for a small period of time but it will fade soon after. However, with harder video games you were constantly getting frustrated because you couldn't pass that one level or work out that last minor detail. You had to exert real effort and it challenged you both mentally and, to a smaller degree in this example, physically. Therefore, when you finally finish this game in 2 weeks or a month compared to a few days with the easy game, you will feel like you actually accomplished something and that feeling will stay with you for much longer. Well that's how these two cars are. They will have you cussing, yelling, and swearing that you hate them but when you finally learn their secrets and start driving them in the manner intended, you'll wonder why anything else still maintains a spot in your garage.
I didn't intend for this piece to be so philosophical or long but sometimes my mind starts going and things just come out. Anyway, here are some impressions of both vehicles. Both feature huge carbon ceramic brakes that can stop each car so violently that you will have racing harness impressions on your chest. In addition, both have "high strung" engines that need to revved out as the 4.0 and GT2 RS don't hit their sweet spots until 5,000 and 4,000 rpms respectively. However, the 4.0's is much more enjoyable both in power delivery and aural pleasure. Also, the 4.0 hooks up much better out of corners due in no small part to the fact that both cars wear the exact same Michelin Pilot Sport Cup+ tires (F-245/35/19, R-325/30/19) and it has 120 less hp and 177 less lbs. ft. On top of this, the 4.0 interestedly also feels much lighter than the GT2 RS even though their claimed curb weights are only 77 lbs. apart. However, the GT2 does have a more effortless feel to the way it gains speed when in the power band and accelerating hard. Finally, maybe it's just because I'm a skinny, old gentleman but I find both cars optional sport bucket seats quite comfortable while still being able to hold me firmly in place.
Sorry that this write up isn't very cohesive but I wrote things as I remembered them as both cars are gone (another story that I would be willing to post if you're interested). If you have anymore questions or want to know something specific about each car feel free to ask."

Wow, very interesting reads! I always enjoy impressions of cars by actual owners rather than auto-journalists who've only had the car for a week.
So what you're saying is that I should 100% DD an RS 4.0 everyday? Got it. I'm assuming you're located in CA, or else I'd asked if you've offered your cars to the Regular Cars dudes.
Are you still considering the 650S? That car looks amazing. They've pretty much perfected the 12C. I heard 95% of orders are spiders. I'd get the coupe though, looks much better.

Thank you. I do my best to convey the experience.
Yup definitely DD the 4.0. Haha.
I actually maintain residences outside of Telluride, CO and Austin, TX but spend a majority of my time in TX.
I am still considering the 650S. In fact, I just saw that McLaren of Dallas has one , so I might have to carve out some time in my schedule to take it for test drive. I didm't realize convertible orders were that high but it's definitely plausible. You and I are alike, coupes all the way.
Ironically, I'm also, for the first time ever, considering the SRT Viper. I saw it in person about 2 years ago in Pebble Beach and thought it looked great but didn't really consider it, as most first year cars have issues. However, now that it's in its second year, I'm definitely giving it a hard look. I love the new interior and am anxious to see whether it's a true "driver's car." My only real point of contention so far is that it does't have carbon ceramics. Currently, I have my eye on these two TAs in Tomball, TX. I might stop by when I make my trip to see the 650S.

Oh god I use Autoblog for all of my automotive wallpaper needs, their photographer is just phenomenal. A Viper is really a unique car that enthusiasts should get the chance to drive. They say it's still one of those cars that you'll crash if you can't handle it, but I think you're good. The new ones are so outlandish that it's good looking. Also, dat TA, I didn't think they were that cheap/came in black. I can see why you're considering one.

It should be standard for the comment to just have the gif when someone puts "Miata life" in the text.

Yeah it's not that I've ever been scared out it, it's just that I never felt like it was refined enough on the inside to be a place that I'd want to be for extended periods of time. That's all changed now.
Yeah I really like the look of the black one, the orange was a bit much for me.
Have you seen the new Viper in person yet?

Yes I have! I actually couldn't believe it was there when I saw it. I was at a Wednesday night car cruise that people bring their cars to (pretty much like Cars & Coffee, except on Wednesdays) literally right as they started getting delivered to dealers, and one dude from a dealership brought it to the show. I was blown away by how much better built it looked than the previous generation next to it. It has a much cleaner, yet still crazy design to it.

Oh wow. Very cool.I totally agree about the design as well.
Anyway, I'll let you know if and when I make any changes to my current garage. Nice talking to you as always.

I saw that your 12c had McLaren Philadelphia plates on it, did you happen to do anything with your Carrera GT there? If so, I may have seen your car one day.

You very well might have. I had the Carrera GT up there about 2 years ago when I was taking it on a road trip to different tracks like VIR and Lime Rock Park.
However, I actually live in TX. The story behind the 12C from McLaren Philadelphia is that they happened to have the exact car that I wanted (except for the carbon fiber engine bay) and were offering it at a great price. Also, I enjoy a good road trip. Anyway, I flew up there on a Friday and was driving it home by noon on Saturday. Overall, I think I put over 2,000 miles on the car during that drip alone and it gave me a chance to break in the car before a track day the next weekend. I also came to really appreciate just how amazing the car's suspension is.

I misread your question. No, I've never taken my Carrera GT to McLaren Philadelphia.
